What happens when plans change: declining and cancelling on GapCrew
On GapCrew, workers can decline any job and either side can cancel a confirmed booking with a reason; the other person is notified, and no penalty, score or ranking effect is applied.
Key points
- Declining never has a penalty.
- Cancelling needs a reason from a fixed list, with an optional note.
- Cancelling never appears in a rating or review.
Declining a job
A worker chooses which jobs to respond to, and not responding is the same as saying no. An employer who does not confirm a worker simply does not confirm them; the worker is quietly marked as not selected when the job fills.
Cancelling a confirmed booking
Either the worker or the employer can cancel while the booking is confirmed and the job has not ended. They pick a reason: no longer available, job details changed, found other work, site or weather issue, or other. A note of up to 300 characters is optional, except that choosing other needs a note. The reason is visible to the other person and to GapCrew administrators, and the other person is notified.
What does not happen
No score, flag, ranking effect or hidden mark is applied because someone declined or cancelled. Matching does not read declines, cancellations, responses or ratings, and a database test checks that. Cancelling also never shows up in a review.
Accounts can still be limited if someone breaks the Terms.
What happens to the job and the time
If a booking is cancelled, the worker's time on the days that are not over becomes free again. If the job has not started, a filled job reopens so another worker can respond.
Good manners still help
No penalty does not mean no consequence for a real person who planned around you. Cancel as early as you can and say why plainly. People remember who was straightforward.
Common questions
Will cancelling hurt my chances of getting jobs?
Does the other person find out why?
