GapCrew is an online marketplace in Washington's Puget Sound region where workers in construction trades and labor say when they are free, and employers post short-term jobs that reach the people who are actually available.
Search by who is free, not by who replied.
Most ways of finding help start with a post and a wait. GapCrew starts with the week: workers say when they are free, and a job reaches only the people who are free for each day's hours.
1. A job is posted
An employer chooses the trade, the day or days (1 to 14), the start and end time, the pay per hour and the number of workers, and the job's ZIP code.
2. Three things are checked
The worker holds the trade. Their free time covers each day's hours. The job is within the worker's own travel distance, up to 50 miles.
3. Only those workers appear
Results are ordered nearest first, then by years in the trade. Nothing about past declines, cancellations or ratings is used.

Your home stays private.
GapCrew works from ZIP codes, not street addresses, and shows the least each side needs to decide.
ZIP code, not address
Workers give a ZIP code. The app uses the center of it to work out distance.
Masked names
Before a booking is confirmed, an employer sees a worker's first name and last initial only. Employers' business names are shown.
Address after confirming
The exact job address is shown only to the employer and to a confirmed worker.
Numbers stay private
A phone number is not shown to the other side of a job.

Built so that saying no costs nothing.
No penalty
Decline a job, or cancel with a reason, and there is no score, flag or ranking effect.
You choose
Workers choose which jobs to respond to. Employers choose who to confirm. GapCrew picks no one.
Paid directly
The employer pays the worker. Wages never pass through GapCrew.
Hours on record
Check-in and check-out create an hours record, and corrections are agreed by both sides.
Nine trades, from Seattle to Tacoma.
Each trade has its own page on what the work involves, what to put in a post and what to list in a profile.

City and county pages cover the neighborhoods, the kinds of work that fit and the commute realities of each area.
A marketplace is not a staffing agency or a job board.
A factual comparison of four common ways to find short-term trades help.
| GapCrew (marketplace) | Staffing agency | Job board | Classified-style posts | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Who employs the worker | Not GapCrew. The worker and the employer arrange the job between them. | Typically the agency, which bills the business that uses the worker. | The hiring business. | Whoever posted the ad, if anyone. |
| How people are found | Search by trade, date, time and distance against availability workers entered. | Recruiters match from the agency's pool of candidates. | Candidates apply to a listing and the business reviews applications. | People reply to an ad by message, email or phone. |
| Does availability filter the results | Yes. Only workers free for each day's hours can respond (a job can run on 1 to 14 days). | Depends on the agency. | Usually not. Availability is discussed after someone applies. | No. |
| Who pays the worker | The employer, directly. Wages do not pass through GapCrew. | Typically the agency, which then invoices the business. | The hiring business. | The person who posted. |
