For employers

Find workers who are free when your job is.

Post the trade, days, hours and pay. See the people who are available, near enough and interested, and confirm the ones you want.

In short

An employer on GapCrew posts a short-term job, sees only the workers who are free for each day's hours and within range, and confirms the people they choose; they pay the workers directly and the exact address is shared only after confirming.

Posting a job

What goes in a post

The job

Trade, a description of the work, the day or days (1 to 14 within 31 days), start and end time, pay per hour and number of workers needed. Pay must be at least Washington's minimum wage for the job's dates.

The place

The site's ZIP code, plus the street address in its own private field. Workers see city, ZIP and an approximate distance.

Draft first

Save a draft, finish it later, then post. You can edit an open job until a worker is confirmed.

See what to put in a job post.

Choosing your crew

What you see and what you decide

  • Workers who respond appear with a masked name, city and ZIP, distance in whole miles, years in the trade and skills for that trade.
  • A job reaches workers within each worker's own travel distance, up to 50 miles. You can narrow the list of workers you browse and invite.
  • Ratings are shown as information. There is no ranking by past declines or cancellations. ID review and license checks are not available yet.
  • You confirm workers one by one until the places are filled. GapCrew does not pick for you.

Your responsibilities

What stays with you

GapCrew is a marketplace, not a staffing agency.

Site safety, permits, insurance, pay obligations and the legal status of the people you work with remain your responsibility. See the Washington overview and check with the Department of Labor & Industries.

GapCrew does not certify anyone's skill, does not run criminal background checks, and does not guarantee a worker's attendance or a job's outcome. ID review and license checks are not available yet.

Questions

For employers

How do I find workers who are actually free?
Post a job with its day or days and hours. Workers whose free time covers each day's hours (a job can run on 1 to 14 days), who hold the trade and whose own travel distance reaches the job can respond. You see who responded and choose whom to confirm.
What do I see about a worker before I confirm?
A masked name (first name and last initial), city and ZIP code, approximate distance, years in the trade, skills for the trade and any ratings. Not an address, a phone number or a photo. ID review and license checks are not available yet.
Who pays the worker?
You do, directly. Wages never pass through GapCrew. GapCrew is free for employers at launch and takes no card payments.
How much do I have to pay?
You set the hourly pay. It must be at least Washington's minimum wage for the job's dates, and the app will not post a job with a lower rate. Some cities, such as Seattle and Renton, have a higher minimum wage. If the pay is below the city's rate, the app warns you so you can check which rate applies to you.
Is GapCrew the employer of the workers I confirm?
No. GapCrew is a marketplace and not a staffing agency. You and the worker agree the work. Whether a worker counts as an employed worker or an independent contractor is decided by law, so check with the Department of Labor & Industries.
What if nobody responds?
Nothing is charged, because GapCrew is free at launch. You can invite matching workers from the job page, or change the job while nobody is confirmed.
Can I post for several people?
Yes. Set the number of workers needed. You confirm people until the places are filled, and then the job stops taking responses.
Does GapCrew run background checks?
No. GapCrew does not run criminal background checks. ID review and license checks are not available yet.
