Short-term trades and labor work in King County
Neighborhoods, the kinds of work that fit, and what getting there is like.
King County is Washington's most populous county and the center of the Puget Sound region, taking in Seattle, the Eastside, South King County and rural valleys and islands, so the short-term trades work varies by place.
About the area
It helps to think of King County in zones. Seattle is dense, hilly and renovation-heavy. The Eastside (Bellevue, Kirkland, Redmond, Issaquah) is mostly residential and commercial, with a lot of remodelling and tenant fit-out. South King County (Kent, Auburn, Renton, Federal Way) holds warehouses and industry plus many residential neighborhoods. The rural east and the Snoqualmie Valley have acreage, outbuildings and yard work.
Vashon Island is a special case: it has no bridge, so reaching it takes a ferry, and workers and employers should plan the day around the crossing.

Kinds of short-term work that fit here
- Renovation trades in the city and Eastside: painting, drywall, carpentry
- Framing and site help for additions, decks and infill
- Welding, fabrication and general labor in the valley and industrial areas
- Landscaping and hauling on suburban and rural lots
- Moving and clean-up across the county
Getting around
Lake Washington splits the county. SR 520 (tolled) and I-90 cross it, I-5 runs north-south through Seattle, I-405 runs along the Eastside and SR 167 serves the south valley. Peak traffic on all of these can turn a modest distance into a long trip.
Because GapCrew uses straight-line distance between ZIP code centers, workers should set a travel distance that matches how far they are willing to drive in practice, and employers should say where to park and arrive.
How GapCrew works in King County
A job is placed by ZIP code, and a worker sees it if they hold the trade, they are free for each day's hours and the job falls within their own travel distance (default 25 miles, up to 50). Employers can narrow the list of workers they browse and invite. Employers see city, ZIP code and an approximate distance, and the exact address is shared only with confirmed workers.
GapCrew is preparing to open in the Puget Sound region, so this page does not claim numbers of workers or jobs.
